Brian McDonough was born in Montreal in 1951 and graduated in 1972 from Loyola College, (now Concordia University) with a B.A. in Communication Arts, with still photography and film as areas of specialization. Upon returning from India, he obtained several law degrees from McGill University and became a member of the Québec Bar. He has collaborated in writing two books on international maritime law.
For the past nine years he has been the director of Social Action Office of the Catholic Archdiocese of Montreal, where he is involved in promoting human rights, working with community organizations, assisting refugee claimants and asylum seekers, and accompanying prisoners, in a perspective of restorative justice.
